Duo Gross & Schouten have been invited by Rotvoll Kunstner Kollektiv, Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder and nyMusikk to Trondheim in May 2025. The duo will give concerts and workshops in which (performative) works by Dutch composers, among others, will be performed.
The duo will also develop their own work: Katharina Gross likes to experiment with multilingualism in her compositions. In her performance The Runaway Girl, she combines speech and vocal choruses inspired by the repetitive literary style of Thomas Bernhard with the constant repetition of syllables found in the songs of the Tierra del Fuego Indians. Fie Schouten is an improviser and uses often literature as a basis for the structure of her projects.
Duo Gross & Schouten would like to explore the idiosyncrasy and subtlety of the linguistic melody, sound diversity and emphasis of the Norwegian language and allow it to take effect in a musical way. It aims to collaborate with local cultural initiatives. The results of experiments with materials that have potential for a piece of music or text will be incorporated into the performance. Video material of the unique Norwegian nature will also find its way into the new work.
The duo’s new work will be part of their project Soft Strength.
Soft Strength is a journey into the inner world of the human being. Subtle, barely perceptible noises, sounds and images are intended to intensify the perception of our senses.
As we are chronically overfed by a flood of information in this day and age, this project is intended to help listeners, viewers and sensory users “purge” themselves of this excess and “reduce” themselves to the basic human need, which undoubtedly lies in interpersonal connection and mutual attentiveness.
