Katharina’s audiovisual work “The mirror sinks.” which she developed during an artist residency 2025/26 at Lademoen Kunsternverksteder in Trondheim/ Norway, is inspired by the poetry bundle Delta by the Norwegian author Marte Huke. Huke’s poems are based on natural geographical descriptions on the one hand, while on the other hand they bring the forces of nature within people to life. Following the example of literature, the composition aims to reflect this special mixture.
“The mirror sinks.” echoes the dynamics of repetition, emergence, and disappearance–dynamics that also define Marte Huke’s Delta. Through recurring motifs, a process unfolds in which each new beginning already carries the seed of its own disappearance. Feelings such as fear of loss, threat, and (longing for) security find their place in the audiovisual landscape of the composition. A blend of cello and viola da gamba sounds, drops, rushing water, breaking waves and silence, in fusion with Huke’s poetry form the basis for musical material. Videos show water, landscape, the human body and letters/words/sentences. A journey through an infinite landscape that invites its audience to look, reflect and act.
Katharina’s artist residency at Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder is kindly supported by a Residenzstipendium by the Federal Ministry of Culture Vienna.
